Types of Personality Tests in a Psych-Ed Assessment

01/20/2020

Few people will appreciate the effect that a student's personality will have on his/her learning ability. Somebody's personality, however, influences the relationship he/she has with classmates, teachers, and family. It will thus contribute to his/her well-being and overall health. Personality tests, therefore, now make an essential element in a psych-ed assessment. They help teachers and parents use a scholar's personality to help him/her get along with others and identify the best teaching strategies for him/her. These strategies are meant to boost a learner's overall productivity. Here are the personality tests used in these assessments.

MBTI {Myers-Briggs Type Indicator}

This test will assess learners across four dimensions, including attitudes, perceiving and judging functions and lifestyle preferences. The test results will place a learner in a pre-determined personality, each with its weaknesses and strengths. The MBTI is nonetheless rarely used for psych-ed assessment since it lacks statistical validity and has low reliability.

MMPI {Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory}

This is a self-report test. It is among the most popular nowadays where learners will read questions then rate how well the statements and questions apply to them. It will take about 1-2 hours to finish the MMPI test. The responses will be scored to generate a clinical profile comprising ten personality scales.

The 16 PF Tests

This measures a student's personality according to a 16-factor personality theory. It generates a normal-range measurement of the subject's emotional stability, adjustment, behavioral issues, and anxieties. The 16PF questionnaire takes approximately 30-35 minutes to finish and is meant for the psych-ed assessment of students aged above sixteen years.

The above personality tests are in no way meant to alienate or scare students. They are also quite affordable and can be further customized by a psychologist to meet a learner's needs. Personality testing might thus be your best investment when aiming for the best results in all levels of education.
